bowls: four identical spheres that are eliptical not round, a bowl rolls in an arc not straight

jack: a small white target ball

bowling green: a 120' by 120' level area, surrounded by a ditch, divided into 15' lanes

rink: a 15' by 120' lane on the green used for a game

mat: a 1' by 2' rug set on the green to indicate where all players must stand to roll their bowls, so everyone bowls from the same spot

 

each bowler has four BOWLS with identical logos

when a bowler rolls all their bowls down the green in one direction that is an END

a GAME is made up of a predetermined number of ends, often 12 ends; that is 6 times up and back on the green

the game is started with a coin toss to see who bowls first

the jack is rolled and centered

opponents take turns rolling their bowls in an end

the score is determined at completion of each end when all players walk down to check the results

the object is to score points by rolling your bowls closer to the jack than your opponent

from 1 to 4 points can be scored each end

only one bowler or team can score in an end
